Reds win 3 in a row....beat Astros 6-4

- Another day, another rain delay...seems to be a theme this time of year when it's really starting to get hot and sticky. Thank God it wasn't like Monday's 2 hour rain extravaganza....just a 39 minute quickie. I swear, anytime I am producing the game from the Reds Radio Network....it's a good bet the game will be delayed by rain or go into extra innings.

- One word on Joey Votto....NATURAL. Okay maybe a few more words...can you believe he's 3rd in MLB with a .368 average....that number also good for tops in the NL.

- Brandon Phillips update....Phillips, who fractured his right thumb when it was hit by a ground ball on Saturday, hit off of a tee on Tuesday for the second day in a row. He also hit underhanded tosses in the cage and later played catch at increasing distances on the field

- How good has Ramon Hernandez been for the Reds of late? The guy had 2 more RBI last night and has now 18 on the season, good for 4th on the team. He's hit safely in 4 straight games. It's always helpful to have someone producing like this when other hitters are struggling or are out of the lineup.

- Micah Owings is an interesting/frustrating case study. Last night he finished with 5.0 IP, 6 hits, 3 runs, 4 walks, 3 K. The guy shows signs of good stuff from the mound but can't seem to put it together in consistent fashion. What you can't deny, though, is his ability to hit the baseball. I was telling Sloanie before Extra Innings last night that if Owings could just be consistenly decent (not great, but decent), he could be a really dangerous pitcher considering his offensive prowess.

- Final Numbers....

Reds news...
The Reds reinstated from the 15-day disabled list RHP Nick Masset (strained left oblique muscle); optioned to Louisville C/IF/OF Wilkin Castillo; OF Darnell McDonald cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Louisville.

Reds trio needs your help...at the moment, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce are on the outside looking in when it comes to All-Star vote consideration. No Reds are in the top five in voting, and they will need some fan assistance to get voted to their first All-Star Game.

Eric Davis will represent Reds at MLB Draft.....Davis will be joined by Reds director of baseball operations Dick Williams to formally announce the club's 2009 first-round pick, which will be No. 8 overall.

Q&A with Carson Palmer
Sporting News

Q: Where have things slipped since '05 for the Bengals, aside from just injuries? And what will it take to get back to the playoffs?
A: We had a very talented team, but after 2005 we couldn't come together like we needed to. I think the true team concept was somewhat lacking. You've got to love being a part of this team and sacrifice some individual goals for the team.

Benson ready to carry load for Bengals
Joe Reedy, Enquirer
Now, with a full offseason to work with quarterback Carson Palmer and the rest of the offense during the Bengals? offseason organized team activities, the running back is showing why the team elected to re-sign him to a two-year deal on March 3.

Could TJ's absence this year hurt Chad?
Matt Williamson, Scouts, Inc
No, because Palmer is going to be back and the line is going to be better. Last year showed that Chad needs able bodies around him, and it looks like they have those now. Laveranues Coles is not a monster drop off from Houshmandzadeh. Maybe they will need a little bit more out of the tight end position, and maybe one of those young receivers will step up their game to some degree. So I don't think losing Houshmandzadeh will be a huge blow to No. 85.

Derrick Brown's return to Xavier "doubtful"
Fox Sports
Derrick Brown has no intention of returning to Xavier. "Doubtful," said the athletic junior forward. "There?s a slim chance I come back to school." The 6-foot-8 (with shoes), 229-pound Brown has worked out for Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago thus far and will remain in the Windy City for this week?s pre-draft festivities.

Former Buckeye impressive in Browns camp.....It's way too early to say who's the No. 2 receiver behind Braylon Edwards. But Brian Robiskie didn't hurt his chances with two TD catches from Brady Quinn in red-zone drills. Robiskie dived to make one in the left corner and caught another underneath coverage inside the goal line. Yes, Robiskie looks as polished as advertised.
