HUGE road trip for the Reds starts tonight....Coming off a successful 6-3 homestand, the third-place Reds are a half-game behind the second-place Brewers in the National League Central standings and 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Cardinals. The next seven road games are against those two teams. It starts with three games in Milwaukee, with the opener on Friday.
Tonight's Pitching Matchup and Analysis from Mark Sheldon:
CIN: RHP Johnny Cueto (4-2, 2.37 ERA)
In a 4-3 Reds win in 11 innings, Cueto received a no-decision after he
pitched seven innings and allowed three runs -- two earned -- and six
hits with three walks, two hit batters and seven strikeouts. He was
effective at getting ahead and threw first-pitch strikes to 22 of the
29 hitters he faced. It was the seventh consecutive start in which the
right-hander worked at least seven innings, but he's winless in his
past two outings.
MIL: RHP Braden Looper (4-3, 4.47 ERA)
Looper's
previous start was not a success. The right-hander did not have his
best stuff, but he was able to complete six innings while getting
touched for nine hits and five runs -- four earned -- in a 6-2 loss to
the Twins on Saturday. Looper walked one and struck out one, and he
also surrendered solo home runs to Joe Crede and Joe Mauer. This start
kicks off a three-game series vs. the Reds, who he is 5-3 with a 3.86
ERA against in 38 appearances -- eight starts -- over 81 2/3 career
innings.

Johnny Gomes working to stay in the big leagues
Mark Sheldon, Reds.com
"They
did the Minor League reports and showed the four hottest guys at each
level. My name wasn't on the Louisville side," Gomes said. "When you're
not on the hot side and you're not on the 40-man roster, that's a gut
check right there. I didn't need any more motivation, but seeing that
in front of my face just kicked me into gear."

UK knew about Memphis investigation...University of Kentucky president Lee Todd confirmed in a statement Thursday that the university knew that the University of Memphis was the subject of an NCAA investigation before forrmer Memphis coach John Calipari was hired as UK's basketball coach:
"The University of Kentucky was made aware of the NCAA inquiry at the University of Memphis during the interview process and we are confident that Coach Calipari was not involved in any way," Todd said. "He was very open with us about what he was aware of at that particular time, and since this is an issue between the University of Memphis and the NCAA and not a UK issue, we will not be commenting further on anything related to this situation."

Yesterday Billy G filed suit against Kentucky....today Kentucky is suing Billy G....The university's suit was filed today in Franklin Circuit Court in Kentucky, which the school contends is the proper venue for any litigation involving the coach's former employment. Kentucky contends Gillispie never signed a formal contract but was working under a memorandum of understanding when he was fired after last season. The two sides are clashing over whether a buyout clause in that memorandum is binding. That would require the school to pay him $1.5 million for four of five years left on his contract.
