Reds swept out of Milwaukee....lose Sunday 5-2

- How frustrating was the weekend?? Aaron Harang continues to be inconsistent (9.1 innings, 22 hits, 11 in his last two starts and an 11-22 record since the start of the last season), as does Micah Owings and it almost seemed by yesterday's series finale, that the Reds just wanted to get the hell out of Milwaukee. They just weren't doing any of the "little things" that you need to do on a game-by-game basis in order to win. With that said, they have four straight games against the Cardinals starting tonight and I think if they can take a few wins in St. Louis, we would all be satisfied with the road trip.

- Is it too soon to start talking about using Micah Owings in a capacity other than pitching? I know we've seen good stuff from him at times this season...but in his last 3 starts, he's combined for 13.2 IP, 20 hits, 13 runs, and 10 walks. I know he's your 5th starter...but come on.

- Phillips after the game: "It sucks real bad. I feel like we?re a better team than the Brewers. They executed better. They did the little things. We didn?t do little things the last two games. That?s why they won. We?ve got to learn from this and make sure we don?t take it with us to St. Louis or the same thing will happen."

- What a weird situation with Joey Votto....he was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of what was termed by the club as "stress-related issues." No more details were revealed, at his request. It's not rocket science, though. If Votto is out of the lineup for an extended period of time...this team is gonna have a tough time winning.

- Volquez is back....The Reds will activate right-hander Edinson Volquez from the disabled list and start him in the opener of a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Dusty announced the move before yesterday's game.

- Final Numbers from Sunday's game....

Edwin Encarnacion still a few weeks away....Even though the Reds could use an extra hitter with Joey Votto on the disabled list, they won't be getting injured third baseman Edwin Encarnacion back anytime soon. Encarnacion, who has been on the 15-day DL with a chip fracture in his left wrist, spent Sunday hitting soft tosses in the indoor batting cage. He will begin taking regular batting practice sometime this week in St. Louis.

Palmer says the Bengals still need Chad
Joe Reedy, Enquirer
"I never once said anything about not wanting him here and not needing him. He's a Pro Bowl receiver. He's put up a ton of yards. He's extremely dangerous to cover. We would love him when he comes here, but he's not here right now."

Speaking of Bengals...it looks like they're interested in joining the NFL Lottery.....The most likely scenario would be a Bengals instant lottery ticket with cash and other prizes, like jerseys, hats or possibly tickets. Tancredi said that the lottery had considered doing a ticket with both teams on it, like they did with the Reds and Indians, but would likely go with a Browns ticket in the northern half of the state and a Bengals ticket here.
